ThinkerBelle, I think I was at that funeral!
At least, in the case of the one I attended, the man's name was Hiatt, and it was mispronounced Wyatt through the entire damn thing. I saw a non Witness couple get up halfway through and leave in disgust. Great Witness, guys!

The past few I have read, the lazy speaker just reads the obituary that was printed in the newspaper, usually written by a family member.
And afterwards, there is some get together at someone's house, or at a venue, where a buffet dinner of sorts is served, and everyone gets some free eats, and might remember to talk to the surviving family members. Sometimes, there will be a video show, but usually, not (don't want to rock any boars, you know).
The saddest funeral I saw was of a very old sister. There was a slide show, but for some reason, there wasn't many of her as a young woman, most of them looked as if they had been taken in very recent years. But mixed in were pictures of her house, interior and exterior. I guess then intent was to show the place she lived in, but with a little narration, it could have also been "And, now, fresh on the market, is this lovely ranch-style dwelling, with large living room, dining room, and three bedrooms. The property also has this very large front yard. For more information, please call Joe Smith Realtors today! Don't let this opportunity slip by!" -

" It is the True Religion ! "
by Phizzy inspeaking to two jw's, separately and days apart, they both weaved in to the conversation the phrase " it is the true religion " .. now in neither case was it possible for me to do my usual thing, piling in with both guns blazing and pointing out that it is impossible for there to be any such thing as "the true religion", unless by "truth" you mean that which is true in your opinion and not supported by facts or reality etc etc.
my question is : is this mere coincidence, or has there been an article or something telling them to say this ?
if there is, could someone point me to it ?

I knew a older sister who once said to me "This system CAN'T go on much longer! It just CAN'T!"
Well a few years later, it didn't for her, she died waiting for that bus. -

So, I went to the memorial service of a man I have known since childhood...
by Captain Schmideo2 ini have been on a fade for years, so this is the first time i have been in a kh for months.the deceased was barely 52 when he died.
from cancer.
one year younger than me.the memorial was the standard "read the obituary column word for word, then do the jw commercial for 25 minutes" plus a new twist (to me), they played a video called "around the corner" https://youtu.be/tfccoyp0vsu.

Nope, no misinterpretation.
Oh, and this:
"In lieu of flowers, please send a contribution to the Worldwide Work for Jehovah's Witnesses".
I imagine they took the pennies from his eyes as well... -

https://youtu.be/tFCcOYP0VSUAnd I remember how, when I was a young and hearty 18 years old, being told I wouldn't have to worry about getting old in this system of things. And that was 35 years ago. Guess what? I am old, too.
They were using that expression, "Just Around The Corner", when I was younger than 18. That corner is a very, very long corner.
https://imgc.allpostersimages.com/img/print/alfred-frueh-just-around-the-corner-new-yorker-cartoon_u-l-q112znz0.jpg?src=gp&w=300&h=300I have gotten to pondering about the situation so many witnesses are in, and I am reminded of this anecdote:
In a nutshell, in order to keep patients from wandering off the grounds of the nursing home, the staff constructed a fake bus stop. The patients will wait at the stop, for a bus that isn't coming, and it keeps them on the grounds.
And that is what the Paradise Hope (tm) is. It's a fake bus stop that keeps the inmates calm, and keeps them on the grounds of the Borg.
And many of us were waiting at that bus stop for a very, very long time. And gave up our youth, our opportunities, our futures, for a non-existent bus.
I will miss my friend. He was, by all accounts, a decent guy. He was too young to die. And he got lied to, just like I did. Like you did, Like we all did.
Thanks for listening. Glad I have a forum to put these thoughts out there. -

Charles Manson Is Dead

You know, I believe Charles Manson was a scumbag and a pimp and a sociopath, but I have a hard time believing the official LA District Attorney's version of the story: That Manson was some kind of cult leader who used drugs and hypnosis to make an army of blind followers to do his will.
Could he manipulate his "girls"? Sure! Most pimps are very skilled at that, and apparently, Manson had taken Dale Carnegie's course on "How to Win Friends and Influence People" and twisted it to his line of business.
I'm sure a low-life like Manson just reveled in the fame he finally got with this trial (he was a frustrated musician, with dreams of becoming big like the Beach Boys and the Beatles), and milked the crazy, demonic image of MANSON for all it was worth. But this whole "we are gonna generate a race war and I'm going to be the new Jesus" sounds like a put up job to me, one that Bugliosi ran with to make sure he could get a conviction for murder against Manson.
When he was interviewed by Geraldo Rivera (a "journalist" whose career is a running joke) he played up the whole loony cult leader thing for all it was worth. Ain't no bad publicity if it's free publicity.
The guy with actual blood on his hands in all of this is Charles "Tex" Watson, who is still alive, and still in prison. Hopefully, he goes to his dark slumber after some very painful, lingering disease. -

When Doyle wrote his tale, this particular incident was still fresh in people's minds:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_Meadows_massacre
The Mountain Meadows massacre was a series of attacks on the Baker–Fancher emigrant wagon train, at Mountain Meadows in southern Utah. The attacks began on September 7 and culminated on September 11, 1857, resulting in the mass slaughter of the emigrant party by members of the Utah Territorial Militia from the Iron County district. The militia, officially called the Nauvoo Legion, was composed of southern Utah's Mormon settlers (members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or the LDS Church). Intending to leave no witnesses and thus prevent reprisals, the perpetrators killed all the adults and older children—about 120 men, women, and children in total. Seventeen children, all younger than seven, were spared. -

School inspection is just like a CO visit.
by pleaseresearch inso our school has just had the school inspectors in, looking and observing lessons.
the similarities with a co visit is uncanny.. how well behaved teachers, members of staff and pupils are..
-
Captain Schmideo2
When the company I worked for was associated with a national office, every year we would get a visit from a "regional manager", and the two weeks leading up to it were "clean the office" "Clear the tickets" "sign these fake inspection sheets" etc.
Realized that the CO visit was exactly the same. That's when his visit (the CO) lost its awe for me. -

Speaking of "ouija" boards (literal translation-Oui:yes, Ja:yes, or , "yes-yes boards"), here is a great article about the decidedly NON-supernatural origins of this game.
